Chapelle des Ursulines

The interior decoration of the chapel of the Monastère des Ursulines de Québec is known as one of the most beautiful carved wood examples in Quebec. Although it has undergone a number of transformations over the years, it remains a vital testimony to Quebec art prior to 1759. Three main elements make up the decor created for the 1723 chapel, completed in 1739 for the celebration of the first centenary of the Ursulines' arrival in Québec City and replaced in its entirety in the current chapel, which dates back to 1902: the pulpit, the Sacré-Coeur altarpiece and the main altarpiece. Adjoining the chapel, on the right, is the oratory of Marie de l'Incarnation. It was erected in memory of its founder in 1972, on the 300th anniversary of her death.
